A KEY Key to Understanding Human Spiritual Healing:
Opposites Attract and Are One!
Dr. Michael E. Brandt
Kabbalah teaches that all of reality, all that exists in creation is connected or unified both by
and within God. Yet God does not merely add up to the sum total of all creation. God goes infinitely beyond that which is created and exists, while being "the glue" that holds all of reality together. This is the astonishing (if you think about it long enough) revolutionary principle of unlimited, infinite wholeness, of Oneness that "lurks underneath" the surface level view of our perceptions of this spacetime world. And it is this principle of Oneness that accounts for the potential that IS the true spiritual healing imperative, in the everyday world of physicality that we inhabit.
This inevitably says something about characteristics we observe in the world that appear as opposites:
light and dark, evil and good, health and disease, male and female, love and hate, etc. Notice I use the word "and" to join these apparent opposites versus "versus." Sometimes things look to be a certain way, yet appearances can be deceiving as we well know. And what appears to be truth for one person may not be for another. Nevertheless, let's assume for the moment that these qualities are indeed true opposites on some level, that each one of the pairs is a pole like the north and south poles of a magnet or the positive and negative electrical charges of what is referred to in physics as a dipole.
While these are pairs of opposites, notice that they are joined as one.
A magnet can only exist in the four dimensional world of spacetime with both a north and south pole. A south pole or a north pole cannot exist separately in this world. A dipole is defined by two opposite charges that are intimately connected by electromagnetic force-coupling. Indeed, by The Law of Attraction, all things, not just opposites are drawn together as they too are One!
This connection of opposites which is a prerequisite for their existence, ought to tell us
something primary about our own lives. That is, that there exists another level in which the concept of opposites is transcended - in which these qualities do not oppose each other but rather, cooperate with each other like friends and lovers! That level of reality in which all things are related, indeed connected to each other, is one where it is natural for true opposites to work together hand-in-hand rather than to push against one another in hand-to-hand combat. At this level then, there ARE no opposites, there are only degrees of oneness.
Although this level readily exists in the here and now, it tends to be hidden in the four-dimensional world of material existence. To visit this level, to get inside it, we first need to dig a little. We must open our eyes a bit wider and look for other "camera views" in life. Initially when we see a lion stalking, and eventually taking down a gazelle we may experience some repulsion. The lion and the gazelle form opposites: one a conqueror and the other the vanquished, from the viewpoint of the "law of the jungle." Yet they are joined not only by their mutually shared instinct for survival, but also as they form interdependent puzzle pieces of a broader ecological system. From this perspective they are bound to one another within a unified level of reality. The law that opposites attract becomes "opposites are also one!"
This is similar to what happens in a marriage: male and female join together to form a new unit - a couple. At the same time as this new thing is created, the two individuals do not themselves just cease to exist! So they create a union within and outside of which the two of them continue their independent existences as separate persons. Essentially, they have agreed to come together and form an interdependent third entity. Understanding that there are three entities in any marriage that must be nurtured is key to marriage success. It is not only your spouse and the marriage itself that must be cared for it is the self along with its needs that must not be forgotten (and with children there are more entities to watch over obviously).
As the flight attendant announces, put the oxygen mask on yourself first before rendering assistance to others. The self must be taken care of first and foremost before one can truly help others. The idea that the ego must be dissolved before one can be spiritual and achieve true union with God is an unfortunate and detrimental one. At the same time this does not mean that the ego is the quintessential core essence of a human's existence.
What does all this have to do with spiritual healing? Healing deals in part with seeing events in one's life from different angles and perspective views. This is not about "waxing philosophic" or throwing up one's hands in surrender and saying "que sera sera". It is coming to a realization that there is more to "the story" than what appears on the surface and what might be taken at "face value." In fact, Kabbalah teaches that there is always more to the events of your life than what appears - much more. It is in one's being receptive to the vast array of potential possibilities that an environment in which both healing and positive evolvement is manifested and can flourish. Indeed the very basis of the Hebrew word Kabbalah comes from the concept of being in receivership - becoming a vessel for, and being in acceptance of the good that is ever flowing toward you, inviting you to partake of it.
But you say "well I only want the good stuff to flow into me, like winning the lottery!" According to the meta-law of opposites, in which they are one, it means that at this level duality is transcended by a unity that is infinite and All Good! Positive and negative merge in the middle at the null point of infinite potential! This potential is an energy, a "light" that subsumes within it all the knowledge, understanding and wisdom which is readily available in the here and now to every person, as their birthright. Thus we have two triumphirates: {unity, nullity and infinity} and {knowledge, wisdom and understanding}. This dyad of triads forms a six-in-One just as The Almighty One created the universe in six days.
At the same time, when we adopt a Unity consciousness this does not mean merging or melding into oneness! That is because the act of creation gives rise to the finite, complex diversity of options and choices that is characteristic of the dynamical life force. This diversity is what gives life its "deliciousness." It is what makes each one of us a unique, sacred aspect of the Divine Oneness of Source. It is in both the allowance and expansion of this diversity, through deliberate acts of continuous, ongoing creation (while recognizing that all of this diversity is connected by and within Source), that we find ourselves to be part of the flow process that represents our ever-expanding evolvement. Another word for this is "healing" - a metaphor for the flowing river of life itself.
Isn't it interesting that one definition for the word Kabbalah is related to the Hebrew verb which means "to make parallel"? This makes me think of what happens when a pebble is dropped in water. This causes circular, parallel waves to ripple, expanding ever outward. This is a metaphor for creation and when we allow ourselves to be in alignment with the leading wavefront and "ride it outward" we are indeed embracing life fully with all its ups and downs.
May this information help you to take a more "fish-eye lens" view of your life, thus enabling you to allow in more of the healing goodness which is always readily available as it flows so close to you!
